Happy Fall Y'all

It's officially the first week of fall and am thrilled the temperature proceeds it. This Japanese Maple wrapped in burlap gives this entry way a crisp, seasonal feel.

Rope

An inexpensive yet trendy way to hang, hold, display and cover things. Gives any space the rustic, farmhouse look. Rope. Love it.

Boho Chic

I hope one day I get the guts to incorporate some Bohemian inspired pieces in to a bedroom. I'm terrified to use bright colors.  Perhaps a guest room where I can go a little funky.  I also hope one day that I actually have a guest bedroom.

Pink

I like the idea of a pink and gray combination in a room.  In my living room, I'm using gray as my "pop"color along side all of my neutral upholstered furniture.  Now, incorporating hints of pink in my pillows will give it the small touch of feminine that I think it needs.

"An Elegantly Frugal Rental in Maine"

The title of this article caught my eye in the NY Times today.   I always enjoy reading about a home designed on a tight budget.  It gets those creative juices flowing.   An artist and furniture maker from Maine, Michael Fleming, uses driftwood to style his home along with other budget friendly finds from thrift stores, auctions, and even the dump.  One man's trash is surely another man's treasure.  Read here.

Red Hot

Who decides that in the fall of 2011 every online and retail vendor will sell an array of bright colors? I've often wondered how that works. Well, each season's colors are determined by one single company: Pantone, Inc. The self proclaimed "Authority of color," Pantone determines the color palette for a season, two years in advance in order for designers to ready themselves for the upcoming trends.   I must say that I'm definitely in favor of red this fall.

Art Wall

One day, I plan to have a large display of mismatched art on a single wall.

The House That Carrie Built

I have always loved the style of Sarah Jessica Parker.  And I still adore she and Matthew Broderick's home in Bridgehampton featured here from a while back.  A 19th century farmhouse that is the epitome of comfort and cool.  She wanted a weekend home "not too precious" and far from showy.  And Eric Hughes, long time friend of hers, did just that.  He mixes garage sale finds and painted IKEA furniture with Karl Springer.  The best part is that he wasn't even a designer. Hmm...
